The
Corpus Christi Library is located in the primary
building of the school. It is open each day from
7:45 until 3:15. We have over 7,500 books in the
library, in addition to video tapes, audio
cassettes and other materials. Each class has a
scheduled time to visit the library and check
out books every week. Grades K-2 have story
time. Grades 3-5 have a combination of story
time and library skills. In junior high, we
concentrate on teaching library skills.
The
STAR Reading and Accelerated Reader programs are
computerized reading programs that promote and
encourage reading. The STAR test is a diagnostic
test that provides a reading range for a
student, It tells what level of books from the
Accelerated Reader program are best suited for
the student's reading growth.
The
student then reads a book in their reading range
and takes a multiple choice test on the computer
about the book. We usually start these programs
near the end of second grade and they are used
in grades three through six. We have
approximately 900 books with Accelerated Reader
tests in the library.
The library has a
book fair each year, usually in November. Along
with providing parents an opportunity to
purchase quality books for their children, the
book fair helps acquire new books and materials
for the library.
